Section: Learning Objectives
This lesson addresses eosinophil interpretation on the CBC with differential and peripheral smear, morphology, absolute counts, and pattern framing.
Each objective describes a bench competency for result verification and reportable pattern synthesis.
- Identify eosinophils on Wright-Giemsa smear by bilobed nucleus and coarse orange-red granules
- Calculate and interpret absolute eosinophil count (AEC)
- Correlate eosinophilia with allergic, parasitic, drug, and myeloid neoplasm workup framing
- Distinguish eosinophils from neutrophils and basophils on morphology
- Report eosinophil patterns without overcalling helminth infection or malignancy from count alone
