Anaerobic culture recovers bacteria that require reduced oxygen tension using anaerobic jars, cabinets, or bags and specialized media.

Analytical Method

Specimens are plated to anaerobic blood agar and selective anaerobic media, incubated in an anaerobic atmosphere, and identified by MALDI-TOF and/or biochemical methods. Susceptibility testing follows CLSI anaerobic methods when performed.
