Specimen Requirements
- Specimen: whole blood
- Tube: lavender-top K₂EDTA (preferred) or K₃EDTA
- Anticoagulant: EDTA
- Handling: invert gently; do not freeze-thaw repeatedly unless method allows
- Stability: follow manufacturer/institutional limits for the HbA1c or immunoassay method
- Most BNP immunoassays require EDTA plasma; serum or heparin plasma is usually unacceptable (unlike many NT-proBNP methods). Confirm the kit insert.
