Section: Learning Objectives
Each objective below describes a competency you will apply at the immunohematology bench, practical laboratory reasoning first, memorization second.
- Explain the two-step indirect antiglobulin test principle: in vitro incubation to allow antibody sensitization, followed by AHG addition to detect that sensitization
- Identify the major applications of the IAT principle in blood bank practice, antibody screening, antibody identification, AHG crossmatch, and some antigen typing methods
- Interpret AHG (check cell) control results and explain why a negative screen/panel/crossmatch is only valid when the check-cell control performs as expected
